Bill Dennis
One of the early pioneers and a visionary of Castlemaine Golf Club.
When the golf club moved to Polly Ross farm from Milkmaids Flat, Bill and a small band of members set about the unenviable job of designing a course clearing stubble and trees etc. building tees, shaping fairways and sand scrapes. After several years the club decided to buy the farmland next door. There again Bill and his merry band of workers cleared fairways, built tees and sand scrapes – eight on one side of the highway and ten on the other. Most of the holes are in the same positions today.
Bill was made a Life Member and was the Club Champion in 1950. Today the Bill Dennis Memorial Trophy remains one of the most sought after events in the Castlemaine Golf Club calendar
Bill Dennis Memorial Trophy Awarded for the best 3 round net score during the club championships.
Frank Edwards
Also amongst the early pioneers at the golf course(s) at Muckleford.
Frank was made a Life Member for his sterling service to the club hardly ever missing a Saturday competition day. Frank is also remembered for always attending the working bees which were held on a regular basis as well as being a regular at the social functions. In his later years when playing was not an option for frank he volunteered his time behind the bar.
Frank Edwards Memorial: Awarded for the best Three round Par total held over three weeks in August .
| Percy Rowe
Could not be regarded as a prominent golfer but certainly an eminent clubman. With the help of Bill Goodear and ‘Placka’ Webb, Percy was instrumental in organising and running the Sunday morning competition. This event proved very popular with the “9 hole” golfers and social drinkers. It remains an institution today.
The Percy Rowe trophy was donated by the Sunday a.m. boys
“Bud” Annand
The three years that “Bud” was president saw the building of the ‘new’ clubhouse (as we currently know standing in its present site).
With the backing of Alf Cox and Barry Mahlstedt, this project would never have happened. This ‘team’ became instrumental in bringing a dream to fruition, allowing comfortable social rapport and profitable social functions to take the club into the future.
The Bud Annand 4-Ball Trophy, a memorial event with the silverware donated by his wife, is another of the much sought after events in our competition calendar. What a tragedy it was to lose Bud so early in his retirement.
